It’s a fair question. Before you put money into any app, you should know where it goes and who can touch it. So, is BillBoxs safe? Here’s exactly how we protect your money and your account, what we will never ask you for, and how to spot people pretending to be us.
How your payments are handled
We never see or store your full card details. When you add money by card, you type your card details on the secure payment page of Paystack (a leading African payment company, owned by Stripe), and sometimes Flutterwave. These companies are certified to the card industry’s security standard (PCI DSS). We only receive a confirmation that the payment worked, and, if you choose to save your card, a token plus the last 4 digits so you can recognise it.
We check every payment ourselves. Your wallet is only credited after we confirm the payment directly with the payment company, not just because your browser says it worked.
You see the full price first. Every price and fee is shown on screen before you confirm. Nothing is added afterwards. See our prices page.
How your account is protected
- A PIN on every payment. Nothing leaves your wallet without your 4-digit transaction PIN.
- Fingerprint or Face ID sign-in on phones that support it (Profile → Security & devices).
- New-device alerts. We email you whenever your account is opened on a new phone or computer.
- Sign out other devices. See every device signed in to your account and sign them out in one tap.
- Automatic sign-out. If you leave the app open and walk away, it signs you out after a few minutes of no activity.
- Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed). Even our own staff can’t read your password.
- Phone number check. We confirm your phone number with a one-time code when you sign up.
What happens if something goes wrong?
- Failed orders are refunded automatically. If a network or biller says a purchase didn’t go through, the money goes back to your wallet straight away. You don’t need to ask.
- “Processing” means your money is held safely. Sometimes a provider is slow to confirm. Your money stays held while the app keeps checking, and it’s either delivered or refunded.
- You get a receipt for everything, by email and in History, with a reference you can quote to support.
- Real people on support. Contact us, or tap Support in the app to chat with our help assistant or reach our team.
What we will NEVER ask you for
BillBoxs staff will never ask for your PIN, password, one-time code (OTP), full card number or CVV, by phone, SMS, WhatsApp, email or social media. Anyone who asks is a scammer, even if they use our name and logo.
Other warning signs:
- Someone offers to “upgrade”, “unblock” or “verify” your account if you send money or a code.
- A message asks you to pay into a personal bank account to get a discount or bonus.
- A link that looks like ours but isn’t www.billboxs.com (watch for extra letters or different endings).
- Pressure to act right now or lose your money.
If you’ve shared a code or PIN by mistake, change your password and PIN straight away, sign out other devices in Profile → Security & devices, and tell us.
What BillBoxs is (and isn’t)
BillBoxs is a bills wallet: you add money and use it to buy airtime, data, TV subscriptions, electricity and more. It isn’t a bank or a savings account and doesn’t pay interest, so keep in it what you plan to spend on bills. You can withdraw your balance to your bank account if you change your mind.
Simple habits that keep you safe on any app
- Use a PIN that isn’t your birthday or 1234, and don’t reuse your bank PIN.
- Lock your phone with a PIN, fingerprint or face.
- Only open BillBoxs from www.billboxs.com or the app you added to your home screen.
- Turn on notifications so you hear about every payment and new sign-in.
Ready to try it? Start small: add a little money, buy some airtime, and see how it works.
Free account, a PIN on every payment, and failed orders refunded automatically.

Is BillBoxs legit?
BillBoxs is a working bills-payment service. Every payment goes through licensed payment companies, every purchase gets a receipt, and failed orders are refunded automatically. If you’re unsure, start with a small amount.
Does BillBoxs store my card details?
No. You type your card details on Paystack’s (or Flutterwave’s) secure page. We only keep a token and the last 4 digits if you choose to save the card.
What should I do if I see a payment I didn’t make?
Change your password and PIN, sign out other devices in Profile → Security & devices, and contact support with the reference straight away.
Can BillBoxs staff see my PIN or password?
No. They’re stored scrambled, so nobody at BillBoxs can read them, and we’ll never ask for them.
